Crafter's Square vinyl at Dollar Tree!

I was shopping at one of my area Dollar Trees the other day and saw a shelf full of Crafter's Square vinyl!  So, I bought one of each color, which at that store was black, white, red, blue, yellow and green and in glitter vinyl there was silver, gold and rose gold.  If you follow my facebook page you would have seen a live review I did using both the regular and glitter vinyl.  Be sure to check out the Facebook page to see that review.

The book I put the vinyl on was handed off to my granddaughter.  So far, with the exception of some picking attempts, the vinyl is holding up.  Would I use this on a tumbler or mug that I wanted to last more than a few weeks?  No.  But if you are making a shadow box and placing vinyl on the glass, this would work.  Or if you are wanting to put vinyl on birthday treat bags.  12" wide by 48" long is a lot of material for $1.  Well worth it, I would say.

See, making beautiful things can be affordable!

Giving Sublimation Another Try

When I found out that you could convert an Epson ecotank printer into a sublimation printer, I ran out and bought myself a ecotank 2720.  I already own a 2720 and a 4760.  The savings in ink is unbeatable.  But when I started trying to make things, the excitement didn't last.  Even though I had purchased a highly recommended ink, I wasn't getting the results I wanted, or saw others getting.  Before long I was listing that printer for sale on marketplace.

I had found a new love.  Direct to film.  But, I had already invested money into a mug press and sublimation paper.  And there were still a few projects I really wanted to try.  So, while converting wide format printers over for dtf, I realized I could convert one of these into a sublimation printer.  I already had the refillable cartridges and a printer, so I just needed the 6 color inks.  I decided on Printer Jacks.  The difference in the outcome is amazing!  I'm looking for things to sublimate again!   Peek a boo shirts, mugs, and even some custom fabrics.  The printer I chose to convert is an Epson Stylus Photo 1400.  The colors that it's producing are vibrant and wonderful.

It makes me excited for sublimation again.  Not the all over shirt designs that you can find online, but the projects, that are more my skill level.  The all over shirts take a great deal of skill.

So, if you tried sublimation with an ecotank, and it fell flat for you too, you might want to consider an Epson Workforce printer or a wide format cartridge based printer.  You need to be sure there are refillable, chipless cartridges available on the market, or it won't work.

This week on my facebook page, I'll be giving away mugs, sublimated with the winners design.  So if you have ever wanted a personalized mug, be sure to go to the Crafting On A Buget facebook page and enter!

Finding Inspiration and Failing

Where do you find your inspiration for projects?  Are you a Pinner?  Do you scroll through Facebook for ideas?  Do you like to thumb through magazines?

I belong to a couple of crafty groups on Facebook and I follow a few people on YouTube.  I need lots of visual inspiration.  I personally have a hard time pairing colors and just being creative on my own.  I can have a vivid idea in my head, but when it comes time to make it a reality, I'm often disappointed.  That's why I like to find budget friendly ways to create.  That way, if I totally fail at the project, the loss is mostly my time.  Example, I had found some child size red and blue ball caps at the Dollar Tree, that I thought would make cute July 4th hats for the grandkids.  I printed out my DTF design and went to heat apply them to the hats.  Unfortunately, I did a poor job measuring the area that could take a design and made my design too big.  But I still tried that design on each hat.  The design split and the hats were ruined.  But instead of $20 or $30 down the toilet, I only lost $6 in material and my time.

Practicing on budget friendly finds is a great way to improve your skills and gain confidence in what you're doing.  I like to walk thru the Dollar Tree and look for items to create with.  They have a great crafting section that carries felt, canvases, paints, brushes, sometimes fabric square, yarn and so much more.  Be sure to check there when you have a project in mind.  You might be suprised at the selection of crafty items to keep you on a budget!

New Giveaway Winners and Life

Be sure to visit our Facebook page

First let me congratulate the winners for this weeks giveaway!  The two lucky winners will receive ICT potholders!  All they had to do was comment and share the giveaway post!  How easy is that!  Be sure to visit Crafting On A Budget's facebook page often for your chance to win.  Why not just follow and sign up for notification?

I have declared July as Craft Your Stash month and with that, I decided I would dig out some crafting equipment I have purchased in the past to utilize, instead of looking for new things to buy.  One of those items is the Provocraft Your Story laminating and book binding machine.  I bought it, but I have never "fired" it up.  One reason was the binders that went with it were very expensive.  And if I'm being honest, I was a little intimidated by it.  I was hoping to get it out this weekend and make something with it.  But life got in the way.  It was a holiday weekend and getting ready to celebrate with family took up the time I was hoping to have for crafting.  But it is still the next thing on my list to do.  I suppose if I had an actual project in mind, I would feel more excitement and urgency.  So today, I'll troll the internet and youtube to see if I can find some inspiration, and then I'll share that with you.

So, stayed tuned for some project on the Your Story and be sure to check the facebook page for the next giveaway!

Remember, Crafting on a budget means making beautiful things affordably!

It's Been Awhile!

It has been awhile since I've posted.  It's been awhile since I was in my craft studio.  I'm really tardy in completing the prize for the 200 page likes give away, but I finally got all the 3D pieces put together.

Tea for You and Me by SVG Cuts

This is the first time I've made all the 3D projects in a single kit.  It was really fun to pick a paperstack collection and work only from that stack for the decorated papers.  I also kept a common theme on the solid color paper.  I hope the winner will like the choices!

I'm hoping to get into my studio and craft some more.  Since I didn't complete my 30 day challenge, so many events have kept me out of the craft room.  Hopefully, this has passed and I can get back to more crafting.  At least a few times a week!

Thanks for stopping by.  I want to put the General Store from Country Market SVG kit together soon.  Be sure to check in and see how I'm doing!

30 Days of crafting day 10

Today did not get the results I hoped for.  I was trying to do a scrapbook layout, but my computer and printer would not communicate.  After two hours getting pictures to print, my crafting time was over.  I hope to finish the layout and design a word album tomorrow.  Be sure to check on my progress!

30 Day Challenge, Day 5 Happy Easter!

Today's post are projects I actually made last night in anticipation of not having time to craft today.

I used my Sizzix eclips2 to cut vinyl for these two tumblers that are bithday gifts later this week.  Both vinyls are oracal 651 that I purchased off ebay two years ago.  I was afraid to use it until now!  After watching a few youtube videos on how to apply it I have been less hesitant.  I'm very pleased with the outcome of these tumblers.  I bought a case of double wall tumblers from Dollar Tree.  This case had the summer colors.  It has the red and blue you see and a really nice green and orange.  I found the images on the internet under free svg searches and then did a trace into ecal2.  I love the wrapper feature!  It curves the words and design so your cup looks more professional.

I have found for transferring the design from the mat to the project is really easy with some Dollar Tree Clear Magic Cover.  It's clear shelf paper that has just the right amount of sticky to make the transfer and you can see what you're doing.

Thanks for stopping by and be sure to check out my facebook page.  I will be having a spring theme give away because we got to 200 page likes!

30 Day Challenge, Day 4

WARNING!  This one hits high on the cute scale!

This egg from the Poplar Street Tulips by SVG Cuts is a favorite.  It always looks so good when it's finished!

This egg turned out too darn adorable!  The base is pink AC Cardstock.  The top panels are by We R Memory Keepers, Cotton Tails.  I got several sheets at Hobby Lobby in a clearance pack. Love it!  The bottom panels are from First Edition Papers.  The collection is called Spring Drop.  I'm going to be looking for that stack again.  It is sooooo cute.

This egg is a hostess gift.  I was hesitant at first about the pink makng a statement, but I really do love how it turned out!  I think it will be well recieved!

Tomorrow I will have a post, but I made the project a day early.  Hope you don't mind!

Thanks for stopping by.  Be sure to visit my facebook page and give me a like!

30 Day Personal Challenge, Day 3

I'm really having fun spending evenings in my craft studio and thinking about what project to do next!  Last night I made the birdcage from Playful Parlour by SVG Cuts

I used AC Carstock for the entire project.  The pieces cut out beautifully on my Sizzix eclips2.  I think this will be something I actually keep on a shelf in my livingroom.

My next project will have to be Easter related.  I want to make a hostess gift for a egg hunt party that a family member is having.  I will also have a post on Easter Sunday, but it will actually be a project I make today or tomorrw.  I'm hosting Easter dinner and doubt that crafting will be something I can do til very late on Sunday.

I'm just 3 page likes away from reaching 200 on Facebook!  I'll be having a spring theme give away when that magic number is achieved!

Day 2 of 30 Day Challenge

It is day 2 and I do have another project to share.  Today it's from the SVG Cuts Box Cards file.

To make this card I used one full sheet of white AC Cardstock and the the rest of the single colored paper was from scraps.  The fun flower paper that is on the inside flaps is from First Edition Paper.  The pad is called Spring Drop.  It is full of bright happy cardstock!  I used two different embossing folders for the outside panels.

Making this card was a double challenge for me.  I don't really care for "fussy" projects that force me to make a lot of decisions about what papers to use.  I buy the majority of my paper in 12x12 format, so when I have to cut an entire sheet for a small project, it causes me great grief.  I thought I would branch out and buy some 6x6 pads for box cards, but the pads I got didn't fit this card.  However, I did find this card to be delightful and fun.  I'll make another box card before the month is over!

Still trying to get to 200 facebook likes for a spring theme give away.  Will you help?

Thanks for stopping by and be sure to check in again tomorrow!

Day 1 of the 30 Day Personal Challenge!

For my first day of the 30 day personal challenge I have completed the beer mug from the Feeling Lucky kit by SVG Cuts.

Feeling Lucky by SVG Cuts

This was suprisingly easy and very fast to put together!  Another one for my favorites list!

To put this together I used AC Cardstock for the base and The Guy Stack by DCWV for the panels.  I embossed the white panels with a Cricut Cuddlebug folder I've had for a long time.  (I will be on the lookout for a more sudsy one though!)  This is a great example of how versitile the kits are at SVG Cuts.

As I continue my challenge, I will use it as an opportunity to stockpile some gifts and cards that I will need in the very near future.  I'm terrible about starting on projects at the very last minute, or not getting them started at all.  I hope this challenge will help me do a better job of planning and executing!

While you're here, be sure to stop by my Facebook page and give it a like!  When I get 200 page likes, I'll have a spring theme give away!

Thanks for stopping by.  Be sure to stop by often (or daily) and see what else I have going on in the craft studio!

30 day Personal Challenge starts April 1!

Tomorrow I will begin posting a new project each day of April.  Now to be honest, I don't plan on doing a project on Easter Sunday because of a family dinner I'll be hosting, so I'll do an additional project in the few days before and post it on Easter!  Be sure to check in often (or daily would be even better) to see what crafty goodness I'll be up to!  I hope to dive into svg kits that I have only dreamed of completing up to now! Fingers crossed!

Be sure to check out my Facebook page.  I'll do a give away when it hits 200 page likes!

April Personal Challenge

I have been very busy since the craft show making bunnies for Easter.  The total tally is 40!  But now I'm ready to move on.  I have decided to do a 30 personal challenge.  I'm going to make a new item each day for the month of April.  I will showcase each new project here and on my facebook page.  So, be sure to check in often and see what's crafting!

First Craft Show is Done!

Well,  I made it.  Got to my first craft show and actually sold a few things!  Unfortunately for the vendors and crafters,  Wichita had a February temp of high 68 so the traffic was a little light.  Most people chose to spend the day in the great outdoors on such a glorious day.  We've had some really cold temps, so I don't blame them!  I met some really nice people and bought some wonderful jams from Steve's Jams and Jellies.  I opened the Cherry Cheesecake right away to try it.  It really taste like Cherry Cheesecake!

Ok, back to my experience.

We could choose to set up either Friday evening, or Saturday morning.  I chose Saturday morning, so I could do a mock set up at home first.  (I also had to finish up pricing and packing my items)  I got up just before 6am, took my shower, loaded my car and drove over to pick up my niece, who was helping me.  We arrived right at 8 am and got busy setting up.  We were done by 9 and I am very pleased with how our booth turned out.

One of the things my family highly suggested was for me to take the Easter bunnies from last year and see if anyone wanted to order them.  That was the best idea of all!  I ended up with orders for 10 bunnies!
Here is a look at the bunnies from last year!

All in all, I am very pleased with my first attempt at craft showing.  I'll be keeping a look out for another small craft show for the future.  In the mean time, I have some bunnies to make!
