Your Craft and Your Mind

Doing crafts not only benefits your mental health, but can help anyone. Just doing a craft relaxes you and takes your mind off your problems. It’s like becoming someone else. Doctors think of it as therapy. They have done studies showing that people with an illness benefit from doing crafts. Crafting releases stress and lowers blood pressure. When you finish a project, you feel like taking on another.

A lot of people sit and watch TV day in and day out, eating and gaining weight. They could live more fulfilling lives just by doing a craft, whether it's scrapbooking or fabric projects. Sewing has been noted to be the most relaxing craft to do. Crafts aren’t just for women and children. Thousands of men enjoy crafting, wood work, knitting, and sewing. The list goes on and on. Donating to a children’s home, and teaching them to do projects they can do with your help will be very rewarding, not only to them, but to you as well.

If you do crafts, you let your mind focus on what you are doing and the time will pass before you know it. Once you start, one thing will lead to another. Before you know it, you’ll be doing several things. This improves your mind. Your motor skills will improve. People with other illnesses will benefit also. If a person can hold a pencil, he or she can do crafts. People that can’t speak can communicate through drawing and painting. The disabled that are confined to a wheelchair are taught different skills to earn a living and enjoy hobbies. It’s not just therapeutic. It’s enjoyable and healthy.
