Finding Inexpensive Crafting Supplies

Finding inexpensive crafting supplies can be a long process if you don't know where to look, but it can also be a fun process. If you are making crafts for resale and have a tax number, you can get supplies tax-free.

One easy way to find what you are looking for is to buy a crafting magazine for your craft and look in the classified ads for going-out-of-business sales. Many craft suppliers have products that are out of season and will sell cheap or in bulk at a reduced price.

Always check out websites for inexpensive crafting supplies and ask for your particular craft. You will no doubt find hundreds, if not thousands, of sites to visit. If your favorite stores are resale shops and thrift stores, there may be supplies there from an ex-crafter. Don't forget the yard sales, church sales and estate sales, which are a great place to look for supplies that are usually cheap.

Don't ask other crafters for their source for supplies, especially if they make the same things you do. They might tell you, or it might be a secret. If you are a painter, Dick Blick will have discounted painting supplies much of the time. It is always a good idea to ask friends and family if they have any supplies, if they crafted in the past but not now, they might be glad to unload some extra supplies on you. Check with the local library for old magazines and decorators and upholstery shops for scraps.
