With the infinite researching power of the internet today, the possibilities for finding needlework crafting projects are endless. With the click of a button you can have every range of needlework project you could ever want, from simple half-hour projects for homeschooled kindergartners, to projects that could take a year or more to complete. Choosing a project that is right for you is a matter of setting priorities.
Consider the time frame for your project carefully. Do you want something easy and fun that you can do in a couple of hours, or perhaps a longer project that will take a day or two? Are you home bound because of an illness or do you have more time on your hands lately and want to learn a new skill like rug-making?
Consider your financial resources carefully as well. Do you have unlimited funds or will you be looking for recyclable materials, such as old clothing for rug making. Perhaps you just bought a wheelbarrow full of yarn at a yard sale and now you want to learn how to crochet.
Think about the reasons you will do this craft. Will you be sewing for a charity bazaar? If so, choose something simple but not too trendy, a project that you can make multiples of, perhaps in different sizes or colors. Will you be gifting your final product? Consider the time you have before the gift should be ready. If you are going to a baby shower in a month, and you are just learning to crochet, it is not a good idea to plan a full layette. Start with something simple, say a matching set of blanket and booties.
Search the internet and look at the supplies lists and the how-to pages, and then the pictures of the finished project. Start simple so you don’t get discouraged, and most importantly, have fun.
