Needlework can be described as any project where the tool used to create or put it together is a type of needle. This could include sewing, embroidering, cross-stitching, knitting and crocheting. There are a lot of craft ideas that can be done with needlework.
If you choose to knit you can start with something simple like potholders, a scarf or small blanket or throw. If your skills are above a beginner, you might choose something like a knitted doll, a full afghan or a Spider Chaser.
If crocheting is your field of expertise, you could again go with potholders. Crocheting is usually simpler and much quicker than knitting. You could make canister covers, doilies, pillow covers or pillows and lacy throws. You can also make smaller items like cross-shaped book marks, key chains, crocheted bracelets and even Christmas tree ornaments. You can also crochet caps, hats and scarves.
Embroidering and cross stitching take a bit more concentration and labor, but the results usually are very vivid in color and exquisite in appearance. You will need to purchase several different colors of thread for the pattern you choose. You can create your own patterns of scenic views, flowers, animals and even children's toys or funny images. For cross stitching and embroidering you will need a pair of embroidery hoops.
You can make embroidered pillowcases, cross stitched pictures and book covers. You can also embroider or cross stitch scenes and designs on clothing. You can make ornaments, pictures and wall hangings.
